Photo Production Process
At Sylte Studios, we prioritize meeting the specific needs of our clients. This means being adaptable in all areas of photo productions, including the scope of the project, crew size, talent selection, location, and the number of images produced.
We recognize that not all brands have access to dedicated art buyers or in-house producers. To address this, we offer our expertise in planning and managing productions. We value transparency in our production process and emphasize continuous communication. Our aim is to keep our clients well-informed and involved throughout the entire process.
Here is an overview of our process
-
Upon receiving a creative brief, we begin a detailed conversation to define the scope of the production. We clarify all roles and responsibilities, deciding whether we will manage the entire production or collaborate with an external production company, agency, or in-house project manager. Once these details are established, we start the project by assembling a team tailored to the production's needs. To formalize the agreement, we send an order confirmation along with an invoice for the startup fee, which is generally 50% of the total order.
-
We guide the creative direction for the production by reviewing mood boards, organizing model castings, scouting locations, and managing agreements. Our team includes assistants, stylists, and makeup artists. We assess various looks, secure locations, arrange necessary equipment and transportation, and prepare detailed production plans and call sheets.
-
On the scheduled production days, we conduct the shoot following the agreed plan, looks, and visual objectives. This days are tailored to meet the client's specific needs, expectations, and project scope, considering factors such as location, looks and models. We collaborate closely with the creative team, which includes assistants, stylists, makeup artists, hair stylists, set designers, and production assistants.
-
Our image curation and selection process is collaborative and thorough. During the shoot, we work closely with our clients to highlight and rate files. We can sign off files during the shoot, but we often do a comprehensive review in the days after the shoot, when we begin organizing the files. The curating and editing phase is very important for the final result and usage. We usually generate preview files available for review online in our digital image suite. Clients can compile their preferred image lists and sequences. Upon agreement on the final selection, these images are prepared for licensing and proceed to post-production.
-
During post-production, we focus on meticulous image treatment, color grading, and detailing. This stage is often the most time-consuming and is crucial to the distinctive quality of fashion photography. Most post-production work is handled in-house, but we also collaborate with leading agencies throughout Europe. For larger projects, we typically allocate around 10 working days. If tight deadlines are a concern, we can bring in additional retouchers to begin refining images while still on set, though this will increase both fees and equipment rental costs. We also accommodate special requests beyond standard post-production and retouching, which are billed on an hourly basis.
-
Upon completing post-production, all images are carefully archived according to the specified format requirements in the order. These files are then transferred via our online Image Lab for easy access and download. The images will be available online for a set period for your convenience. The final invoice for the assignment is sent digitally and must be paid in full before the usage rights for the images are activated, unless otherwise agreed in advance.
